Tuesday, March 9       

• Visit the Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary 

• Take a panoramic view of Freetown from Leicester Peak, 850 feet above the estuary.

• Shop at the Big Market, one of Sierra Leone's oldest markets, dating from the 18th century. The market showcases the vibrant colors, sounds, and flavors of Sierra Leone.

   Wednesday, March 10          

• Tour the Bunce Island ruins, where our ancestors were abducted into the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade.

• Participate in an African Naming Ceremony on Tasso Island.  

• Explore the Kissy Town Eco-Camp, Bethel Gardens, and the Tasso Island Heritage Center. 

• Present a life-affirming Legacy Gift​ to the Tasso Island leaders and community.

• Dine at the View Hotel Lounge in Freetown.​​​

Thursday, March 11         

• Participate in the inaugural Freedom Day celebration to commemorate the historic day when 1,196 Black Loyalists from Nova Scotia, who had secured freedom by fighting for the British during the American Revolutionary War, gathered under the Cotton Tree to pray and lay the foundations of the settlement of freedom (Freetown).

• Commemorate Freedom Day in the nearby Jamaican Maroon Church.

• Dedicate artifacts from Sierra Leone that will be conveyed to Mitchelville in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, and the International African American Museum in Charleston, SC -- symbolizing the journey of freedom and reconnection.

Friday, March 12       

• Participate in a Business and Culture Exchange at iconic Fourah Bay College, where you can explore potential business, educational, and other opportunities with Sierra Leoneans.  

• Attend a Designer's Fashion Show featuring ready-to-wear men's and women's garments.

• Depart Freetown, passing through Masaika Junction en route to Senehun Village to honor the history and legacy of Madam Yoko, the Mende leader who governed 14 chiefdoms.

• End the evening in Bo City, Sierra Leone's second-largest city, welcomed by local singers, dancers, and community representatives.

Saturday, March 13       

• Participate in a full day of cultural discovery, including vivid Masquerade performances— by Ngorboi, Falui, and Jobai — with a strong taste of the Sierra Leonean culture brought to life through drumming, dance, and call-and-response singing.

• Visit the historic Bo School.

• Enjoy the culture and the food of Bo City.

Sunday, March 14     

• Depart Bo City for Taiama and Njala University, home to ancient Nomoli figures and an important rice-growing research center.

• Trace the story of Sengbe Pieh  (Joseph Cinqué) and the 1839 Amistad rebellion.

• Travel to Mozza Beach Resort in York Village for a restful evening on the Atlantic coast.

• Dinner on the beach.

Monday, March 15         

• Spend a restorative day on one of Sierra Leone's beautiful beaches, with optional water sports, cultural activities, and free time — space for reflection after a journey of history, remembrance, and discovery.

• Visit some of Freetown's most talented artists at the Bondumani Art Gallery.

• Celebrate Sierra Leone, new friendships, shared experiences, and reflections during our farewell Bonfire on Mozza Beach.

Tuesday, March 16

• "Wi go si bak" -- Until we meet again!

• Departure

• Note: Travelers should select late-afternoon or evening flights on March 16 to allow at least five hours between leaving the hotel and the scheduled departure time.

Participate in the dedication of symbols of freedom (the boulder and a cotton tree sapling) that will be transported from Sierra Leone for permanent installation at Historic Mitchelville Freedom Park and the International African American Museum at Gadsden's Wharf in Charleston, where 40% of enslaved Africans disembarked into British North America. 

 

The boulder represents endurance and the unbreakable strength of a people who survived abduction and slavery. The cotton tree symbolizes freedom and community. These symbols will form a physical and spiritual bridge between Sierra Leone and the Lowcountry communities shaped by their legacy.
